Hilton Head Commission Gives Green Light to Mall of Shelter Cove ...

The Mall at Shelter Cove is getting a facelift! The Hilton Head Island Planning Commission has approved plans presented by a real estate affiliate of the Kroger Co., which purchased the 300,000 square foot mall and its surrounding 42 acres properties back in August 2011. The proposal calls for 295,000 square feet of commercial space, and a residential property which will include 210 apartments to be built along Broad Creek. A new community park, a gas station, restaurants, stores, a liquor store and ? of course ? a Kroger grocery store are also included.

Along the waterfront community park and apartments will include an access road that is pedestrian-friendly and which allows access to the Creek. The apartments will be cater to high-end renters and is slated to include several amenities designed to attract young single professionals or couples and/or retirees. The project is sure to revitalize an area of Hilton Head which has dwindled in activity in recent years. The Town Council will be meeting later this summer to give the final approval to the project. This will result in enhancing an already healthy city economy. For more information regarding the redevelopment project, check out the full article here.
