JACKSON, Miss. (AP) ? A judge in Mississippi is hearing arguments over whether an abortion law should be allowed to take effect.
If the law is allowed to be put in place, it could close Mississippi's only abortion clinic. The law has been temporarily blocked by U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan III.
The judge gave the clinic and the government one hour each Wednesday afternoon to argue over the law.
The law requires anyone performing abortions at the clinic in Jackson to be an OB-GYN with privileges to admit patients to a local hospital.
The clinic says the admitting privileges are not medically necessary and it has been unable to obtain them for its two out-of-state OB-GYNs. The government says the privileges help protect patients.
