Fire in Maxatawny house
Two people and their pets managed to escape their burning home overnight.
Flames erupted around 4:30 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of Folk Road in Maxatawny Twp., Berks Co.
It appears the fire started in an electrical panel in the basement and extended to the first floor, filling the home with smoke, fire officials said. They estimated the fire caused about $75,000 in damages.
As the fire escalated to two alarms, as many as eight fire companies responded to the scene. Firefighters quickly put out the flames.
Officials said the two people inside, along with their two dogs and a cat, safely escaped with no injuries.
